Dysfunctionelle

Dysfunctionelle is a multimedia project focused on the gendered differences of ADHD diagnosis.

It has been recognised for some time that the symptoms of ADHD in women differ slightly from those found in men. However, it is more important to recognise that these symptoms are often different due to the societal expectations put on women to hide or “mask” them.

Exploring feelings of anxiety, frustration and exhaustion, a photoseries captures the emotional toils that come with living with ADHD. Dysfunctionelle the film reproduces a day in a state of executive dysfunction, watching day turn to night from your bed, seeing the minutes and hours pass by as you lie, unable to leave the house. Emulating the feelings of time blindness, over-stimulation and confinement, the film uses cyclical and repetitive motifs to capture some of the feelings that come with neurodivergence.
