Art In And Outside Of The Gallery
Our engagement with art is deeply personal, whether we are creating it or experiencing it as viewers.
I aim to explore the intricate power dynamics inherent within the art world, involving the artist, art management, and the audience. How does the environment in which art is displayed shape our understanding and interpretation of it? Are curators using their influence to dictate what constitutes “success” in contemporary art culture?
Central to this discussion is the acknowledgement that the definition of “good” art is not fixed but subject to societal constructs and power structures. Often, the determination of what qualifies as “real” art lies in the hands of influential figures within the art industry, predominantly wealthy, older, white men.
My project, Art In And Outside Of The Gallery, delves into this discussion, seeking to create a space where artists and audiences alike can challenge preconceived notions and broaden their perspectives on art.
