Cross Platform Media Practice 2 is the creative media module for 3rd year BA Media and Anthropology students. This BA is a programme that offers a multimedia practice module in the second and third year of the programme. In year 2, students produce a website which includes a journalistic article, photography and non-fiction moving image elements, based on a well researched and original idea.
Building on this experience, in their final year, students produce a more advanced, creative story-telling project to be presented and exhibited via their own website. As a starting point, they explore their own interests to help generate ideas for a story-telling project and develop something that they are excited and engaged in, into a proposal for a multimedia platform which they go on to make. The projects critically engage with ideas of subjectivity, objectivity and power, as they relate to issues of representation and agency in storytelling. In bringing theory into practice students produce critically informed multimedia projects, using an array of technical skills and creative practices in words, still image and moving image.
Students offer peer to peer learning and feedback throughout and learn the art of receiving and giving critical feedback. These skills, along with the suite of technical production skills will serve them well as they enter employment in the creative industries. Their work is often radical, creative and critical – and always interesting.
