I have been interested in a feminist movement in South Korea, called Escape the Corset. The movement is about the stereotypes of femininity, the corset, and being true selves. I am part of this movement, by keeping my hair short and keeping away from the ‘feminine’ look that society demands. As a result, often I get told that I dress like a boy, I am too
tall for an Asian girl, or asked why I keep my hair short, ‘like a boy’.

In this project, I wanted to show that I do not care about the traditional ‘femininity’. There is a saying in my country, ‘if you enter the kitchen as a man, your chilly (penis) will drop to the floor.’ In my culture, a chilly means penis in a metaphorical way, as it works in the same way with sausages, aubergine, or banana. I linked this saying to the word ‘sandwich maker’. If entering the kitchen castrates masculinity, how are they going to survive themselves? So, in videos in the kitchen, I cut all the hate symbols towards women and then made kimchi-fried rice. I eat the food and hate and will digest all of them.
