When Simonne's grand-daughter asks her how her life was like in her twenties, she decides to write a letter highlighting the best memories she has of getting married to the only man she ever loved, surrounded by her whole family, seventy-five years ago. But she also stresses the darkest moments of her existence as she feared for her husband’s and family’s life during the Second World War. Simonne's heartfelt testimony accompanied by personal and national archives from one of the World’s darkest times, takes the viewer to 1941 Normandy, France, under the German occupation, and makes us realise the real hardships the French population went through as the invaders took away their freedom.
